Colorado Named Top State for LEED Green Buildings

Colorado LEED-Certified BuildingsThe U.S. Green Building Council recently released their 2011 list of top states for LEED-certified buildings per capita, and Colorado was near the very top of the list at number two.

Colorado was actually the top state on the list as it was behind only the District of Columbia. Through the end of 2011, there was 13,803,113 square feet of LEED-certified space in the state, or 2.74 square feet per capita. To give you an idea, the tenth top city for LEED-certified buildings per capita, Minnesota, came in at 1.81 square feet per capita. Washington, D.C. featured an incredible 31.50 square feet of the same building per capita, but this is due to the fact that it is such a small area compared to that of others on the list.

I am very proud to see that our residents see the value of ‘going green’ and have acted on the many chances we have to continually improve our environment and quality of life everyday. I am sure this is not the last we see of Colorado appearing on such lists!
